Remedy, Revitalize, Reconnect

Our sixth annual conference for high school women of color in the Bay Area. The Riot Conference is meant to bridge the disconnect of women of color at private independent schools in the Bay Area through a day of community-building, energizing, and inspiring.

Our theme for this year’s conference is “Remedy, Revitalize, Reconnect.” Through this theme, we wanted to explore the importance of re-emerging after the coronavirus pandemic and acknowledging its impact within communities of women of color. We hoped to build and cultivate environments where we and other WoC can thrive. Uplifting each others’ voices, learning from mentors who can inspire and support us, and getting the tools we need to do so are important in achieving those spaces. These steps are also important in claiming our space in predominantly white and male institutions. This year's conference had an emphasis on self care and personal growth that is important during the world’s recovery from the pandemic. The goal of our conference is to provide a space for students to foster a network of women of color and learn to uplift and inspire each other. Our more immediate goal is to help break down barriers for female students of color that inhibit them from reaching their full potential.

Speakers and panelists

The 2022 Conference featured keynote speaker Teiahsha Bankhead and five panelists who shared their experiences with forming strong communities of women of color and forming inner strength in professions from medicine to art.

Workshops

Our student-led and speaker-led workshops brought together students with shared interests to discuss topics concerning women of color. These workshops aimed to cover a range of issues that may not be commonly explored in our independent high schools. They are educational, empowering, and safe spaces that encourage and welcome all voices.
